Difference between a buildpack and a dockerfile?

I understand a dockerfile to be a comprehensive set of instructions to completely build an application’s production (and development for that matter) environment from scratch (or at least from a bare linux distribution).

I understand a buildpack to be something responsible for retrieving and installing collections of dependencies and (similarly to docker) merging these to provide the app’s running environment. I also see from here:

Buildpacks were first conceived by Heroku in 2011. Since then, they have been adopted by Cloud Foundry and other PaaS such as Google App Engine, Gitlab, Knative, Deis, Dokku, and Drie.

But I wonder what are the differences then? E.g.

  • Are dockerfiles allowing more options than heroku buildpacks?
  • Do both have the same capabilities in terms of permissions and users?
  • Are they as versatile as eachother? (I know docker images can be run almost anywhere there is docker, is the same true of buildpacks?)
  • What other differences are there?

Kubernetes deployment – specify multiple options for image pull as a fallback?

We have had image pull issues at one time or another with all of our possible docker registries including Artifactory, AWS ECR, and GitLab. Even DockerHub occasionally has issues.

Is there a way in a kubernetes deployment to specify that a pod can get an image from multiple different repositories so it can fall back if one is down?

If not, what other solutions are there to maintain stability? I’ve seen things like Harbor and Trow, but it seems like a heavy handed solution to a simple problem.

NOTE: Cross posted on SO just to get help faster, but it belongs here.

Change link unfurling image used by Notion

Whenever you post a link to Notion into Slack etc, the image that unfurls is always this: Notion default image for link unfurling

Is it possible to change the image used in Notion for link unfurling? Ideally it would either be the image selected for the page cover, or the first image in the page.

Tech stuff – in the Notion html head, this is what needs to change <meta property="og:image" content="https://www.notion.so/images/meta/default.png">.

How to show thumbnails of images stored on Google Drive on Google Sheets?

I have a Google spreadsheet that contains hyperlinks to files stored on my Google Drive using a HYPERLINK formula.

Opening the spreadsheet and hovering the cursor over the link, I can see a thumbnail preview and that’s pretty neat (if you feel lucky, try yourself on this example sheet)!

thumbnail preview

However, this doesn’t happen for my collaborators, and indeed if I open the same spreadsheet with another account with similar access rights (on the spreadsheet and on the image) I don’t see any thumbnail preview.

You can try the example I took the screenshot of here. Is this feature currently available on selected accounts only, or am I missing something?
