Ubuntu 20.04 looses WiFi adaptor

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 on an old computer and after 1-2H of usage the WiFi drops and there is no way to connect it back since the prefs show an error message: No wifi adaptor found. (Works again after a reboot).

FYI: The wifi card is an Atheros AR9485 (internal) and is running using ath9k & everything is up-to-date

Cannot connect to Wi-Fi network although my Realtek WiFi adapter is detected

I am facing a weird problem in Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel version 5.4.0-40. I have got a Wi-Fi adapter from Realtek for connecting my PC to the internet. From this answer, I have followed the instructions and downloaded and installed the driver from Github. It worked well for a few months, but since a few days I am facing the issue.

Ubuntu is detecting the presence of a Wi-Fi adapter, but whenever I am going to WiFi settings to connect to a network, the settings page says No WiFi adapter found:
enter image description here
I can understand that Ubuntu is detecting the adapter because WiFi option is appearing in the system tray when I connect the adapter:
enter image description here

I have also tried connecting to WiFi network from the command line with iwconfig. Here is the output of the command:
enter image description here
When I try to connect to a WiFi network with the iwconfig wlx00e0202c7613 essid <SSID> key <PASSWORD> command, I am getting this error:

What is the problem and how to fix this issue? I do not know much about networking in Linux, so please ask if more information is required.

Help please – installed ubuntu 18.04 lts – cant get ethernet/wifi working

I have a dell optiplex 9010 desktop PC. I have just installed ubuntu 18.04, alongside windows 10, on my hard disc in a separate partition. All is ok except I cannot establish an internet connection.
When I go onto settings> Wi-fi…..it says no wifi adapter found. I have tried running an ethernet cable from laptop to desktop but it will not establish a connection. I then tried tethering my mobile phone and this allowed me to go online however I still cant figure out how to install the drivers!!

Using my laptop (packard bell) I have looked online for the drivers for these devices only because I am assuming the device drivers are not present, I downloaded from an intel web site what I think are the related drivers. The name on the file to be extracted was e1000e-3.8.4.tar.gz.
I have extracted these files to a usb stick but have no idea if 1) This is the probable fix and 2) if it is how can I upload these drivers to my desktop. (my desktop is an optiplex 9010)

I am very new to linux and following some suggestions online I used the terminal command ‘lspci’ and this showed the following what I believe to be wifi/ethernet related devices on the system:

  1. ethernet controller [0200]:intel corp 82579LM gigabit network connection.
    Subsystem: Dell 82579LM gigabit network connection.
    Kernel driver in use: e1000e.
    Kernel modules: e1000e
  2. ethernet controller [0200]:intel corp 82572EI gigabit ethernet controller. Subsystem: intel corp PRO/1000PT server adapter [8086:1082]
    Kernel driver in use: e1000e.
    Kernel modules: e1000e

I have two ethernet cards in my desktop.

  1. Intel PRO/1000PT server adapter 82572EI and…
  2. Intel 82579LM gigabit network connection…

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Install driver rtl8814au on ubuntu 20.04

Install driver rtl8814au on ubuntu 20.04

Based on this

Install driver rtl8814au on ubuntu 18.04

I installed manually (make && make install) the driver when I had the kernel

$ uname -r

Now, ubuntu 20.04 wants to install the new one:

I did it before (upgrade the system then, the kernel) and the driver stopped to work, even I installed thousand times, was impossible to up the driver which logical name is “wlx50c4ddcf488e”.

The installation I made:

$ sudo apt install build-essential
$ sudo apt install bc
$ sudo apt install linux-headers-`uname -r`
$ sudo apt install git

$ git clone https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au.git

$ cd rtl8812au
$ make && sudo make install

Does anyone has idea about what can I do? Now, I cannot upgrade my system without losing the wireless connection.

Thank a lot.
